Pakistan Railways Restores Shalimar Express from Lahore to Karachi Starting August 14

Pakistan Railways has officially announced the much-anticipated restoration of the Shalimar Express, which will resume its operations between Lahore and Karachi starting August 14, coinciding with the Independence Day celebrations. This decision comes as a major relief for daily commuters, business travelers, and families who frequently travel along the vital Main Line-1 (ML-1) corridor, offering them a reliable, comfortable, and efficient mode of transportation.

Key Route and Stops

To facilitate passengers from various cities and towns along the route, Pakistan Railways has strategically scheduled multiple stops for the Shalimar Express. According to the official notification, the train will make scheduled stops at the following key railway stations:

Kot Lakhpat

Raiwind

Okara

Sahiwal

Sadiqabad

The inclusion of these intermediate stops is a thoughtful step toward boosting regional connectivity. Residents of Sahiwal, Okara, and Sadiqabad, in particular, will greatly benefit from this service, as it bridges a crucial gap in express train availability and connects smaller economic hubs directly to the country's two largest metropolitan cities—Lahore and Karachi.

Boosting Passenger Convenience

The restoration of the Shalimar Express is part of a broader effort by Pakistan Railways to upgrade service delivery, improve punctuality, and maximize passenger comfort on prime routes. With modern passenger coaches, improved seating arrangements, and onboard amenities, the revived service aims to make long-distance travel across Punjab and Sindh smoother and more enjoyable.

Furthermore, launching this service on August 14 adds a festive and patriotic touch to the occasion, symbolizing growth, connectivity, and national progress. Booking for the restored Shalimar Express is expected to open shortly through both online reservation portals and railway station reservation counters across the country. Passengers are advised to secure their tickets in advance due to high anticipated demand
