Imran Khan Completes 3 Years in Jail: Adiala Jail Superintendent Releases Detailed Report on Facilities

As PTI founder Imran Khan completes three years behind bars, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail has released a comprehensive report addressing the living conditions, medical care, and daily routines of the former prime minister. The report explicitly rejects claims regarding solitary confinement, discriminatory treatment, or unequal behavior by prison authorities.

According to the official report submitted to the court, the system of solitary confinement in prisons has been virtually abolished and is no longer practiced, nor do courts issue such punishments for extended periods. Clarifying the situation at Adiala Jail, the superintendent confirmed that no inmate, including the PTI founder, is being held in solitary confinement. Having been convicted under the law, Khan is serving his sentence in accordance with established legal procedures.

Standard Treatment and Special Class Facilities

The administration emphasized that the former prime minister is treated in accordance with the law, just like any other inmate, with no discriminatory practices applied. However, due to his status as a "Better Class" prisoner, along with his background as a former prime minister and political party leader, specific security arrangements and additional facilities have been allocated.

The report highlights that ordinary prisoners are restricted from entering Khan's residential enclosure. Far from being isolated, his living space spans seven compounds, allowing him the freedom to walk around freely throughout the day. He is only required to remain inside his cell during specific nighttime hours. Prison officers and staff maintain regular contact to ensure his requirements are met, with the deputy superintendent conducting routine and special visits as needed.

Health, Diet, and Daily Routine

Medical oversight is a top priority, with jail doctors conducting health examinations three times a day. These checks include monitoring his blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation, the results of which are shared with him. Additional medical examinations are carried out whenever necessary.

For daily meals, a full-time convict has been assigned specifically to prepare food according to a menu chosen by Khan, with meals cooked three times a day and inspected thoroughly by medical staff. Furthermore, the report notes that the PTI founder has access to natural light, fresh air, and exercise from sunrise to sunset, with his privacy fully protected under the jail manual.

Access, Books, and Legal Oversight

From the morning lock-up opening until evening lock-up, Khan is permitted free movement to engage in preferred daily activities within a secure and monitored environment. Jail authorities regularly inspect the security arrangements of his quarters. In line with prison regulations, he is permitted weekly visits every Tuesday with his wife, Bushra Bibi, and receives regular supplies of his preferred newspapers and books.

Highlighting independent judicial oversight, the report notes that Salman Safdar, acting as a "Friend of the Court," inspected Khan's cell on February 10, 2026. After a meticulous review of the living and detention conditions, a report was submitted to the Supreme Court stating that the detention environment is appropriate and satisfactory, containing no elements of solitary confinement. Consequently, the report dismisses allegations raised by petitioner Aleema Khanum as speculative and unfounded, requesting the court to dismiss the petition.
